It was once simple to despise pharmaceutical Firms. With growing prescription prices and the opioid crisis, the pharmaceutical industry was widely viewed as putting profits before people’s health. Pharma was ranked dead last in a 2019 Gallup poll for positive perception among US institutions. People were more favorable about the federal government than they were about Big Pharma.
Technology companies were more popular that year. According to a different survey, just under half of US adults had a favorable opinion of the tech industry. It isn’t easy to compare two polls side by side, but the fundamental trend is clear: consumers in 2019 were more optimistic about IT businesses than they were about pharmaceutical Firms. Then the pandemic struck, and the country’s recovery hinged on vaccine success. As a result, a government investigation of digital companies has gained traction on both sides of the aisle. In addition, the two industries appear to have switched places in terms of national appeal.
Meanwhile, during the pandemic, the popularity of tech Firms plummeted. Democrats and Republicans have spent the past year publicizing different technological failures, and congressional hearings have brought their anti-competitive business practices to light. According to a Gallup poll conducted in February 2021, the percentage of US adults who have a favorable impression of the tech industry has decreased to roughly a third.
